Which money script do you recognise?
Money scripts are beliefs about money that people usually pick up early, from family and experience, often without noticing. Psychologists Brad Klontz and Ted Klontz grouped them into four types. Rate each statement to see which ones you lean towards.
- Money avoidanceA sense that money is bad, that wealthy people are greedy, or that you do not deserve much of it. People who hold this belief often describe avoiding looking at their finances at all.
- Money worshipThe belief that more money would solve most problems and bring lasting happiness, often alongside a feeling that there is never enough.
- Money statusThe belief that net worth reflects self-worth, so money is partly about how you are seen by other people.
- Money vigilanceAlertness and discretion about money: saving, worrying about having enough, and keeping finances private.
Scores are out of 15. Most people recognise more than one script. This is a reflection exercise, not the validated Klontz Money Script Inventory, a clinical assessment, or financial advice. Your answers stay in your browser.
